[ CLC1123 ] Many distributors & wholesalers of lanterns, like Rayo, had some lanterns made for them by other lantern manufactures. Such is the case of this lantern. It was most likely made for the Atlantic Stamping Co., embossed with ATLANTIC on the font, by the Embury Manufacturing Company. It has the globe guard design, and font, of the Defiance Lantern and Stamping Company, but with the cold blast and tripod globe lifter lever design as the Embury MFG. Company.(Letís not forget that William Embury founded the Defiance Lantern & Stamping Co. in 1900, left the company in 1917, Started the Defiance Lantern MFG. Company in 1918, then purchased and absorbed the Defiance Lantern & Stamping Co. in 1935.) This lantern is considered COMMON to RARE. ( est. [ CLC1105 ] ONE FOR THE COLLECTORS! This Lantern is in PRISTINE condition. Buhl lanterns are marked "Buhl" on their tops or fonts. Prior to 1913 they were given model numbers. After 1913 Buhl brought out a new line referred to as "Royal" tubular lanterns. They were given names like "Daisy" or "Majestic", etc., and yes "Princess". This lantern is considered COMMON. The optional Bullseye Globe (as shown on this lantern) increased the candlepower. This was one of the most popular Dash Lanterns made by the C.T. Ham Company and is considered VERY COMMON. [ CLC1106 ] Charles Trafton Ham opened the C.T. Ham Manufacturing Company in 1886. After his death in 1903, his son George continued the business until his death in 1915. The companys manufacturing equipment and customer accounts were sold to the R.E.Dietz Co. and the C.T. Ham Co. was closed. Any C.T. Ham lanterns you find will be 1915 or before. [ CLC1110 ] In 1900, William C. Embury founded the Defiance Lantern and Stamping Company. This lantern has the distinctive twisted-wire globe guard that dates it from 1900 - 1910s. These lanterns are considered RARE. After this time the globe guards had a design similar to the Rayo NO. 82 Lantern ( CLC1112 ). Forced to resign in 1917, due to pressure from the board of directors, he established the Embury Lantern Mfg. Company. In 1935, Embury was able to purchase the Defiance Lantern and Stamping Co., close the plant, and move most of its equipment to his factory. [ CLC1101 ] We will date this lantern ( Circa 1914 - 1915 ) due to its unique features. From 1900 thru 1914 these lanterns had the rounded handle such as this lantern and un-reforced side tubes. Models after 1914 had a square and flat handle, re-enforced side tube design, and supports were added from the side tubes to the font. This lantern has the re-enforced side tubes, the supports to the font, but has the earlier rounded handle. TRULY A COLLECTORS LANTERN as not too many of these were made during the transition period from 1914 and 1915. The lantern is considered RARE. [ CLC1122 ] Dietz restyled the D-Lite lantern line in 1939 to this Art Deco look. Embury Manufacturing Company, which Dietz purchased in 1953, had the Air Pilot in their line of lanterns. Many customers prefered the Air Pilot so Dietz reworked the dies of this 1939 D-Lite to develop and manufacture the Dietz Air Pilot. Tis lantern is considered to be VERY COMMON.

[ CLC1124 ] This lantern was the largest Cold Blast Dash Lamp in the Dietz Line. It would have had a 2 1/4" Bullseye magnifying lens on the glode or mounted on the globe lifter. It was rated at 10 candlepower with this bullseye lens. The height would have been 14 1/2". The finish would have been Black. This lantern is considered RARE. [ CLC1121 ] The No.1 and No.2 Blizzard was sold as a reflector lantern. It had a reflector which slid over the tubes, directing the light downward. Very few of these reflectors have survived. The No.1 Blizzard was a poor seller, and after a few years, ordered for the No.1 was filled with the No.2. Both lanterns are considered RARE.
